Among the four films to be granted advances on receipts for pre-production by Centre National de la Cinématographie (CNC) Director General Véronique Cayla is Une nouvelle ère glaciaire (“A New Ice Age”), Darielle Tillon’s feature debut, which has received €440,000.

Acclaimed for her medium-length works, in particular À la vitesse d'un cheval au galop (2002) and La ligne (2005), the director started filming on the feature in Bulgaria on Monday.

Read in full at the last Angers Premiers Plans festival, Une nouvelle ère glaciaire is set in a remote region on the sea. Two brothers (24 and 28) run a café on a campsite there and form an inseparable trio with the young owner of the pony club. But things change when the summer comes to an end and the campsite empties.

Starring Melaine Lebreton, Marthe Sebille, Michael Rebouilleau and Anna Picco, the film – produced by Mikhaël Hers for the new outfit Blue Monday Productions (founded after Sunday Morning Productions) – has a five-week shoot between Bulgaria and Cotentin (Normandy) and is slated for a release in the second half of 2008.

The CNC has also granted €400,000 to Louise Michel by directing duo Gustave Kervern and Benoît Delépine (MNP Entreprise, see article) and €450,000 to Un lac by Philippe Grandrieux (a Mandrake Films production), the third feature from the director of Sombre and La Vie nouvelle.

Lastly, €410,000 was granted to Sur ta joue ennemie (see news) by Jean Xavier de Lestrade, 2002 Academy Award winner for Best Documentary with Un coupable idéal. The director’s feature debut is being produced by Maha Productions and Cine-@.

In terms of advances on receipts, the summer session of the first committee selected the scripts of Stan Neuman’s L’œil de l’astronome (Les Films d'Ici), Daniel Sicard’s Objets dérivants (Adelaïde Productions) and Sombras by Auriol Canals (Corto Pacific).
