Having won the Jean Vigo Short Film Award in 1992, Fillières came to the attention of cinemagoers with her three previous features: Grande petite (“Big, Little Girl”, selected at Berlin in 1994), Ouch (2000) and Good Girl (2005). She has also co-written several films, including Noémie Lvovsky’s Forget Me, Xavier Beauvois’ North, Philippe Grandrieux’s Sombre (“Dark”) and the Larrieu brothers’ A Real Man.

Written by the director, Un chat un chat traces the misadventures of Célimène (Mastroianni), a 35-year-old woman who prefers to go by the name of Nathalie and no longer writes due to lack of inspiration. Her seven-year-old son, Adam, helps her keep her feet on the ground.

While their apartment undergoes renovation work, they live temporarily with Célimène’s mother, which proves difficult. Seventeen-year-old Anaïs (Bonitzer) is young, fresh and youthfully arrogant. She pursues Célimène, steals her post, lies in wait for her everywhere and tries to convince her to use her as a source of writing material.

Produced by Pierre Grise Productions, Un chat un chat – which shot for six weeks – received €420,000 in backing from the Ile-de-France region and pre-sales from Canal +.

The title will be released domestically by Les Films du Losange some time in 2009.
