), L'insurgée looks at the stormy relationship between Maurice (Piccoli), a composer and former resistance fighter and his granddaughter, Claire (Étienne). The latter – orphaned at an early age – is brought up by her grandfather.

A competitive swimmer at 17, the young girl is on the brink of adulthood. Generational conflicts rage in their isolated house by the sea, beneath the gaze of Maurice’s companion, Madeleine.

After directing the short Histoire naturelle (selected at Tribeca in 2003), Perreau went on to co-write Caravaca’s Passenger [+see also:

(unveiled in Venice Critics’ Week 2005).

The director chose to shoot his debut feature in Brittany and in particular on the Emerald Coast (Saint-Lunaire, Dinard, Saint-Malo…), where he spent his childhood. L'insurgée will be lensed by Céline Bozon (France [+see also:

Produced by Jacques Perrin’s company Galatée Films, L'insurgée received pre-sales from Canal + and Ciné Cinéma, as well as backing from Sofica Cofinova and the Brittany region, where most of the seven-week shoot took place (apart from the scenes shot in Paris and Vercors).

International sales are being handled by Films Distribution, whereas domestic distribution is still under negotiation. The feature will be completed next spring and is expected to hit movie theatres in autumn 2009.
