CNC backs Jacquot, Guédiguian, Recha, Dercourt and Allouache
Five feature film screenplays were selected by the second board for advances on receipts of the National Centre for Cinematography (CNC). The chosen film projects are by Benoît Jacquot, Robert Guédiguian, Denis Dercourt, Marc Recha and Merzak Allouache.
Villa Amalia by veteran director Jacquot – whose latest film (The Untouchable [+see also:

film profile]) screened in competition at the 2006 Venice Film Festival – is set to star Isabelle Huppert. Jacquot has directed the actress on four previous occasions, in The Wings of the Dove (1981), The School of Flesh (1998), No Scandal (1999) and False Servant (2000).
This time, Huppert will star alongside actor-director Xavier Beauvois in the adaptation of a Pascal Quignard novel about a contented woman who suddenly decides to change her life after catching sight of a man – a childhood friend with whom she was once in love – as he passes by with a woman on his arm.
Her new life takes her to the Italian island of Ischia, where shooting on Villa Amalia will soon get underway. The film is produced by Edouard Weil for Rectangle.
The CNC also granted an advance on receipts to Guédiguian’s L'Armée du crime, a feature about the Resistance movement against the Nazis (see news). The film is produced by Agat Films and stars Simon Abkarian, Virginie Ledoyen and Louis Garrel.
Another film set to receive an advance on receipts is C'est ici que je vis by Catalan director Recha. The film starring Eduardo Noriega and Sergi Lopez centres on a dreamy young boy with a passion for songbirds and is set in the industrial suburbs of Barcelona. The feature – which starts shooting soon – is backed by Arte France Cinéma and produced by French company Noodles Production.
The CNC also selected Loin des balles by , whose latest film, The Page Turner [+see also:

film profile] (see Focus), won over audiences in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes in 2006 and enjoyed international success. Once again targeting a limited audience, Dercourt’s new project will be produced by Michel Saint-Jean for Diaphana.
Finally, an advance on receipts will go to Harragas by Allouache (Bab El-Oued City, Hey cousin!, Chouchou), a project as yet without a producer.
