synopsis

Gothenburg, Sweden 1984. Twelve-year-old Kid's world has been turned upside down. Just when she's won a prestigious essay contest and with it a dream summer job at Gothenburg Radio, her mother Ester suddenly drags her off to her home village in North Karelia, Finland. Angry and confused, Kid has no choice but to go with her. With them in the car are Ester's friend Sirkka and her thirteen-year-old son Jamppe. Kid and Jamppe have always been like brother and sister, but this summer everything changes between them. But why is Ester being so secretive, is the trip really just a summer visit? A tangle of lies threatens to ruin everything for Kid and her mother.
