More revealed about Alakrana

More details have been revealed about one of the most eagerly-awaited Spanish productions of the next few months: Salvador Calvo’s suspense drama Alakrana. There is certainly good reason for this interest, since it is the first collaboration between Spain’s most successful production company, Telecinco Cinema (see news), and Danish giant Zentropa’s Spanish arm, Zentropa Spain (see news), along with Fausto PC.

The screenplay, based on a real-life incident that took place in October 2009, when Spanish tuna fishing boat Alakrana was hijacked in the Indian Ocean by Somali pirates, was written by Jorge Guerricaechevarría (Cell 211 [+see also:

As if that weren’t impressive enough, the protagonist of the film, the boat’s captain, will be played by Miguel Ángel Silvestre, one of the most popular faces in film and television. It will be the actor’s second production with Telecinco Cinema after Eduardo Chapero-Jackson’s Verbo (see news), which is currently in post-production.

Alakrana will start shooting soon in Barcelona.
