Young actor Péter Nagy, who landed his first big role in Gabor Herendi’s Lora: A Story About Love, is making an impressive rise to fame. He has just been selected as the Hungarian representative for the 2007 Shooting Stars, organised by European Film Promotion for the upcoming Berlin Film Festival.

The 25 year-old director trained at Móricz Zsigmond Theatre before joining the Hungarian Academy of Drama and Film in Budapest in 2002. After some minor roles in Gábor Dettre’s Cloud Over the Ganges and József Pacskovszky’s Oliver VII, he was chosen by successful director Herendi (540,000 admissions in 2001 for A Kind of America and 460,000 in 2003 with Hungarian Vagabond [+see also:

film profile]) to play the role of Geri in Lora: A Story About Love. Also heading the bill is young US actress Lucia Brawley (Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center).

film profile]), Lora: A Story About Love tells of Lora, whose fiancé David dies in a car accident, an event that emotionally traumatises the young woman to the point of her losing her sight and cutting herself off from those around her.

However, three years later, by chance, she meets Geri, David’s brother, now a saxophonist who buries his sorrows in all-night parties in an attempt to cope with the grief. The musician – who always felt attracted to Lora – tries to renew their friendship, which proves a difficult task as the young woman is trying to escape her painful past.

A romantic melodrama, Lora: A Story About Love was produced on a €1.5m budget by Skyfilm, the director’s production company, in co-production with TV2.

The film opens in Hungary on January 25 through Hungarotop and will be presented to the international press during the 38th Hungarian Film Week (January 30-February 6, 2007).
