(lit. “Gomorrah”), the new, highly anticipated film by Matteo Garrone (The Embalmber), based on the best-selling book Gomorrah by Roberto Saviano, shooting of which will begin soon in Naples.

The Neapolitan actor will play Franco, a man who makes toxic waste disappear, one of the many illegal activities of the Camorra, whose complex mechanisms are related in the book, which has sold 700,00 copies so far and whose film rights were bought by the Rome-based production-distribution company Fandango.

The film – the set and project are top secret in order to not create problems for the cast and crew (author Saviano was given bodyguards after receiving threats) – is made up of six short episodes with as many main characters, who revolve around the four-sided criminality between the port of Naples, Scampia, Castelvolturno and Terzigno.

Garrone chose the actors after holding numerous auditions throughout the province of Naples, in search of authentic local faces.
